About:

NLS is a non-profit and independent community legal clinic that has been serving the community since 1973. They provide free legal services and assistance to low-income individuals who live within their catchment area (Downtown, East of Yonge) and qualify for their services. Its signature outreach partnership, the Health Justice Program, sees our staff embedded in the Family Health Team at St. Mike’s in order to facilitate warm referrals for low-income patients seeking legal help.

Project Details

Students will work as part of the NLS Tenant Application Student Support project, a project designed to assist low-income tenants in accessing the legal system to improve standards of maintenance and repair in their units and buildings.

Who can apply?

First-year students are eligible to apply. Students must have demonstrated experience and interest in working with marginalized communities, and a commitment to the pursuit of social justice. We would prefer that this experience goes to students who have an intention of continuing to work with marginalized populations and to use their legal careers to advance social justice.

Information about COVID-19

Students will conduct their work remotely.
