About:

The Law Society of Ontario governs Ontario’s lawyers and paralegals in the public interest by ensuring that the people of Ontario are served by lawyers and paralegals who meet high standards of learning, competence, and professional conduct.

Project Details:

The Compensation Fund (CF) evaluates and processes compensation claims from victims of licensee dishonesty. It is a small but very busy department within the Professional Regulation department located at 393 University Ave.

The Law Society of Ontario (LSO) is seeking a student to assist with research and policy development, file review and other measures to ensure our Fund remains responsive to the needs of the public. Students will be trained on a remote platform to allow them to complete their work from home.

Students will conduct legal research, develop draft policies, and review present and historic files. It is expected that the student will make a meaningful difference on how claims for compensation can be even more responsive to the needs of the public. All produced work will be reviewed and approval by the supervising lawyer.

Will the student(s) be expected to show up for regular shifts each week, or is the schedule flexible?

Flexible, as the student will be working remotely, but work will need to be submitted on a schedule that will be set between the student and the supervisor at the start of the placement.

Requirements and Expectations:

Preference given to students who have taken Administrative Law and Civil Procedure.
